Four generations of hairdressing
Dullers started in Amsterdam in 1909 and has been cutting hair in Apeldoorn ever since the war. Chris is the fourth generation behind the chair.
Not many businesses last more than a century, and fewer still stay in the same family the whole time. What has kept it going is fairly simple: pay attention to the person in the chair, and teach the next generation to do the same.
1909
First generation: founded in Amsterdam
The first Duller salon opens its doors in Amsterdam in 1909, founded by C.C.F. Duller. The start of a trade that would be handed down from father to son.
The war years
A forced move to Apeldoorn
During the war Dullers has to leave Amsterdam and moves to Apeldoorn. The salon settles on Hoofdstraat, where it would stay for more than fifty years.
Second generation
The trade stays in the family
The trade passes to the second generation, another C.C.F. Duller, who continues the business on Hoofdstraat.
Third generation
Bob Duller takes over
Bob Duller, Chris's father, takes over and builds on the reputation. Chris still calls him his great hero.
1986
Fourth generation: Chris starts
Chris Duller joins his father Bob's salon in 1986. He brings new techniques and his own point of view, while holding on to the Dullers principles.
1995
Avantgarde Coiffure Award
The craft at Dullers is recognised with the Avantgarde Coiffure Award, proof that quality and creativity have run through the family for generations.
2005
The move to Roggestraat
After decades on Hoofdstraat, Dullers moves to Roggestraat 150, in the heart of the Apeldoorn town centre. An open, modern space with room to grow.
2009
A hundred years
Dullers celebrates its centenary: a hundred years of family craft and four generations doing the same job.
